||American novelist and short-story writer, poet, translator,
classical music composer, and filmscorer Paul Bowles has lived
as an expatriate for more than 40 years in the North African

||I read this book because I had read Paul Bowles' "The
Sheltering Sky" and I found his style of writing to be
poetic and enchanting. I am glad I read it because of the open
and complex portrayal it gave of a culture often misunderstood
by Americans. Paul Bowles should be considered a... Read
Delicate Prey : And Other Stories
||Paul Bowles once said that a story should remain taut throughout,
like a piece of string. That tense, stretched tone is the key
to this collection of 17 eerie tales by the author best known
Sheltering Sky. The Delicate Prey is dedicated:
"For my mother, who first read me the stories of... Read
Stopping: An Autobiography
||Well worth reading if you're a fan of Bowles. Slow and mysteriously
vaporous, like much of his fiction. Full of subtle insights
(both intended and unintended) into his mind and his writing.

Bowles Is Back: A Guru Receives Homage in Atlanta
By Carol Ardman;
THE Paul Bowles mystique doesn't touch everyone, but it has a
long reach. America's most eminent expatriate writer and resident
of Tangier brought his mystique with him on his first visit to the
United States in nearly 30 years. He went to Atlanta in mid-May
to receive a medical checkup. He agreed to revisit the country where
he was born in 1910 on the condition that he bypass New York. "I
used to love it. It was a wonderful city in the 20's," he said.
The first enthusiast to make the pilgrimage to Georgia, the "Empire
State of the South," to pay his respects was Daniel Halpern, co-founder
with Mr. Bowles of Antaeus magazine and the Ecco Press. The composer
Ben Yarmolinsky followed soon after. Millicent Dillon, biographer
of both Paul and Jane Bowles, flew in from San Francisco. Then Regina
Weinreich, who has written about the Beat Generation, arrived and
showed her documentary film, "Paul Bowles: The Complete Outsider."
